100,000th LEGO® Brick to be laid in Cathedral build project

On 27 July 2022, we’ll lay the halfway LEGO brick in our Cathedral build project. Back in 2016, the ambitious fundraising project started with a single brick and six years (and one pandemic) on, the 100,000th brick will be placed.

To celebrate the fundraising milestone, we’ve got a morning of exciting LEGO related activities for the whole family. All are welcome to join for free LEGO-based fun! You can build (bricks provided) statues, stained glass windows, pews and St Edmund! Visitors can add a brick to the Cathedral model and follow a special LEGO trail around the Cathedral. There will even be LEGO-themed refreshments! No booking required – just turn up on the day between 10 am and 12 noon.

The 100,000th brick will be placed on the large Cathedral model at 11.00 am by Dean Joe Hawes. Visitor Experience Manager (and the enviable Head of LEGO), Sarah Friswell, says, “Our LEGO model is always a big hit with visitors, both young and old. To be at the halfway point of this massive build is so exciting and we welcome families of LEGO lovers to join us for what promises to be a great morning of fun activities.”

We are one of four cathedrals in the UK building models of their buildings in LEGO bricks. The model grows as visitors donate £1 to add another brick.
