Venue Hire at the Cathedral

The Cathedral is a brilliant place to hold an event or even for a change of scenery for a meeting!

Concerts

We’re a popular venue for concerts and we regularly hosts international performers. We have three superb musical instruments: our Harrison and Harrison Organ, our Steinway model D Grand Piano and our Chamber Organ. Find out more about these instruments here.

The concert capacity of the Cathedral is currently 726, and television monitors can be fitted for the benefit of areas with less good sight lines. The Cathedral can also offer modern and spacious changing facilities, interval drinks and private receptions for sponsors of VIPs. We can facilitate ticket sales for you through Eventbrite if required.

Art & Exhibitions

The side aisles of the Nave are the perfect setting for an art exhibition and we play host to many throughout the year. We’re always looking for new themes and welcome challenging ideas. If you’re interested in bringing an exhibition to Bury St Edmunds, please let us know!

Drama

The Cathedral has been an alternative venue for theatrical productions. Both the Nave and the Cloister Garth can be used, and provide stunning backdrops for an evening’s theatre. As well as local groups, major stars such as Philip Voss and Robert Hardy have performed here in recent years, and the Cathedral has been a venue for musical productions by the Suffolk Young People’s Theatre.

The Cathedral is also a stylish backdrop for evenings of music and readings (most recently hosted by Sue Lawley), and has hosted a number of special events, including a Son et Lumière performance and a dinner in the Nave. The Cathedral has close relationships with St Edmundsbury Theatre Services, the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds, and the annual Bury St Edmunds Festival.
