St Edmundsbury Cathedral To Host Diocesan Education Service

On 19 June, St Edmundsbury Cathedral will host the Diocesan Education Service. The service is open to all church schools in the diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich and this year will follow a theme of ‘seeking wisdom, knowledge and truth’.

The Education Service is an annual event, and this year will be held on a weekday. It will take place on Monday 19 June at 1.30 pm. The Rt Revd Dr Mike Harrison, Bishop of Dunwich will preside and the Very Revd Joe Hawes, Dean of St Edmundsbury Cathedral will be in attendance.

A combined choir from the Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust schools – some 120 children, will sing ‘Baba Yetu’, the Lord’s Prayer in Swahili. St Gregory CEVCP School in Sudbury will perform John Rutter’s ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’. Pupils from King Edward VI school in Bury St Edmunds and Debenham High School will also take part in the service.

The Rt Revd Dr Mike Harrison, Bishop of Dunwich and Chair of the Diocesan Board of Education, said of the event: “It’s wonderful to be able to come together with  the schools we serve at the Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds. Our 87 church schools together serve 14,500 pupils across Suffolk. We look forward to celebrating the brilliant work being undertaken and giving thanks for all those who enable our schools to flourish. This year our theme is “Seeking Wisdom, Knowledge and Truth” and given the complexities of navigating contemporary life as children and young people it is a hugely relevant theme. ”
