‘Totally Rubbish’ Family Activities this Half Term
This October half-term, St Edmundsbury Cathedral is offering some ‘totally rubbish’ family activities that spread the word about recycling and reducing waste.
On Tuesday 28 October, two free-to-attend fun-filled family craft sessions will celebrate the wonders of recycling. Participants are encouraged to upcycle and create new masterpieces from old materials and reduce waste in the process! Family activities are laid-back and fun for the whole family, aimed at children aged 4-11 who must be accompanied for the duration of the session.

On Wednesday 29 October, Rhubarb Theatre will take over the Cathedral Nave for four performances of their street theatre style show, ‘Collection Day’. In the show, it’s bin day and two rambunctious refuse collectors are heroically cleaning the streets. But what’s this? A dustbin that refuses rubbish! Delving into its depths, we discover that ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’, as a wonderful myriad of stories and treats ensue from all that is rubbish and recycled!
Rhubarb Theatre bring a dustbin of fun, a black sack of eco messages and heaps of mime, physical theatre, comedy, puppetry and creativity into this brand-new storytelling piece which combines live performance, character interaction, mime, physical theatre, mischief, and laughter. Each performance will last around 30 minutes and be followed by an informal chat with the performers, and a chance to meet the puppets and take photos. Tickets are just £5.00
St Edmundsbury Cathedral Learning Manager, Kim Judge, said, “This half term we have a great programme for families, and we encourage everyone to join us, especially if you’ve never been to the Cathedral before! Rhubarb Theatre will be bringing a lot of energy and fun with their storytelling which is perfect for families and our craft activities on Tuesday will give creative children the chance to make something meaningful from things that would have been thrown away. We all look forward to learning more about reducing, reusing and recycling.”
Family craft activities are free to attend and can be booked here.
Collection Day is £5.00 per ticket and can be booked here.
