Finance Committee

The Finance Committee must keep the activities and management of the Cathedral under review. It is responsible for monitoring and reviewing the overall financial strategies and financial policies of the Chapter and making recommendations as appropriate to Chapter. It has oversight of the financial procedures and delegations across the Cathedral and makes recommendations to Chapter as required.

MARK PENDLINGTON: CHAIR

Mark has been an active member of the Church of England for over 50 years, most recently as Chair of the St Edmundsbury & Ipswich Diocesan Board of Finance. He has extensive experience of working across the public and private sectors including in industry, national and regional voluntary organisations, further and higher education, economic development bodies, local enterprise partnerships, and academia, many with UK, EU and international dimensions. He is a Deputy Lieutenant of Suffolk and is High Sheriff of Suffolk (in nomination) for 2023/2024.

SUE HUGHES

Sue spent 27 years involved with criminal justice in the police and Magistrates’ Courts. More recently she has shifted her focus to health & social justice, serving as Lay member of the Suffolk Safeguarding Partnership, Board member of Healthwatch Suffolk and Independent Chair of two separate groups working together to make Suffolk a dementia friendly county. She is a member of the finance and nominations committees and Chapter Lead for social action & inclusion.

KEVIN ROONEY

Kevin joined the RAF at 17 and served fifteen years as a simulator technician before entering industry. Specialising in complex projects and business turnarounds, in the USA, Europe and UK. Qualified in both electronics engineering and computing, he further studied for a Masters in project management at the University of Lancaster, and is a member of the Institute of Directors. Kevin is a Vice-President for an international aerospace and defence company founded by the Wright Brothers.

Canon Philip Banks
THE REV’D CANON PHILIP BANKS

Canon Philip was installed as Precentor in February 2012. Prior to this, Philip served as Rector of Marks Hall and Vicar of Coggeshall and as Rural Dean from 2008. Before ordination Philip was a Chartered Surveyor. The Precentor has responsibility for worship, music and the arts. Philip assists with ministerial training in the diocese and also oversees the maintenance and development of Fabric of the Cathedral and properties. He also oversees the Fabric of the Cathedral.

ANDREW ROBINSON

Andrew has over 25 years’ experience as a tax adviser in large accountancy practices. Specialising in the provision of tax advice to charities and other non-profit organisations across the UK, Andrew has a sound understanding of the regulatory, business and financial environment in which charities operate. As Treasurer of a local Parochial Church Council for for over ten years, Andrew has been responsible for the financial management of a number of significant successful capital projects. Andrew is an Observer Member of the Charity Tax Group, and represents the Chartered Institute of Taxation on HM Revenue & Customs’ Charity Tax Forum.
