2026 Online Lent Course
Edmundsbury Cathedral are looking ahead for their 2026 Lent Course ‘Framing the Future’.
The course is inspired by, and takes its theme from, the Cathedral’s inaugural Benedict Lecture coming up on Tuesday 17 February. Abbott Christopher Jamison, Abbot President of the English Benedictine Congregation, will look at how people have framed their future in the past and how we frame it now. Following this lecture, the online lent course will begin on Wednesday 25 February and continue weekly at 7.00 pm until 25 March.

Each week, experts in their subjects will explore visions of a future church. The talks will be hosted and convened by the Cathedral’s Canon Theologian the Reverend Dr Victoria Johnson who is Dean of St John’s College Cambridge. Speakers include:
- The Reverend Dr Adrian Burdon, Moderator Designate of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland who will explore the idea of ‘A United Church’.
- Nick Spencer, Senior Fellow, Theos, will present ‘The Church in a Scientific Future’.
- The Right Reverend Dr Anderson Jeremiah, Bishop of Edmonton, will discuss ‘A Just Church’.
- The Right Reverend Dr Joanne Woolway Grenfell, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, will share her thoughts on ‘A Caring Church’.
- Dr Gemma Simmonds CJ, Director at the Religious Life Institute, Senior Research Fellow at Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology and Bye-Fellow at St. Edmund’s College Cambridge, will examine ‘A Thinking and Praying Church.’
The Reverend Canon Katy Cunliffe who has put the course together, said, “We’re thrilled to continue our thoughtful Lent discussions this year with a topic that looks forward instead of back. It’s wonderful to be able to welcome an array of speakers who are so knowledgeable and thought-provoking.”
The whole series of five talks is just £10. This will cover the Cathedral’s administration costs and give each speaker a small fee which will support the important work they each contribute to their field of concern and expertise. You can book here.
