The Christian Faith
As Christians, we believe in God who created us out of love, who loves each one of us and who longs for us to be in relationship with God.
We believe that God revealed Godself to us in the person of Jesus Christ, who showed us what it means to live a life of loving service. We believe that Jesus demonstrated this in the ultimate way, dying on the cross and then overcoming death by rising again three days later. As Christians, we seek to follow Jesus’ example, living as he showed us and as Jesus taught us, loving God and loving one another above all things.
We also believe that God is living, loving and active in our lives and in the world today through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit inspires us and strengthens us to work for truth and justice and for the renewal and restoration of the whole of creation.
But the Christian faith isn’t first and foremost about things we know or believe in our heads to be true; it is about relationship with God. We hope that St Edmundsbury Cathedral is a place where all people – whatever you do or don’t believe – can encounter the wonder and love of God, whether that’s through the beauty of our worship, the peace of our sacred space, the magnificence of our building, the awesome views from our tower, or the welcome of our hospitality.
If you want to explore the Christian faith, the best place to start is by coming along to worship. There are also specific opportunities to learn more about Christianity through our Learning Hub.
