Re-Opening for Private Prayer

The Cathedral is pleased to announce that it is now open for individual private prayer.

A designated area within the Nave will be open from 10 am to 4 pm (Tuesdays to Saturdays).

Please note that the Cathedral remains closed for worship, visits and events. The Cathedral Shop and Pilgrims’ Kitchen also remain closed at this time.

If you are feeling unwell or have symptoms of COVID-19, we ask you to follow the guidance and stay at home.

What we have done to make your visit safe

The safety of everyone – people coming to pray, the staff and volunteer stewards on duty – is our primary concern.

One-way system

Entry to the Cathedral will be via the South door near the Norman Tower.

The exit is via the small door further along the south side of the Cathedral.

Social Distancing

Visitors are asked to observe the markers on the floor, both as you approach the Cathedral and once inside.

At all times, please respect other people and maintain a 2 m distance.

Hygiene

There is a hand sanitiser station just inside the door of the Cathedral. Please ensure that you use this.

Seating

If you wish to sit and pray, pews are available. These are clearly marked with the places that you may sit (all are 2m distant from the next nearest seat). All seats will be cleaned by the staff regularly.

Lighting a candle

If you wish to light a candle, you will be directed to one of 6 candlestands. These are placed more than 2 m apart.  You will be able to take a clean candle from the table.

Services continue to be livestreamed via the Cathedral’s Facebook page. Full details can be found here

You can light a virtual candle and write a prayer on our Prayer Wall.
