Also sometimes called Holy Communion, Mass or The Lord’s Supper. it is the service in which Christians follow Jesus’ command to his disciples to share bread and wine in remembrance of him. The service contains Bible readings and prayers, as well as the sharing of bread and wine and, at the end, everyone is sent out to do God’s work and to share God’s love in the world.
We have at least one Eucharist every day at the Cathedral. They all follow the same basic order but each has its own ‘flavour’, as described below:
This is a said service lasting about 30 minutes (slightly longer on a Sunday when it includes a sermon) and uses the Communion service in traditional language from the Book of Common Prayer.
Lasting 40 minutes and followed by refreshments, this service has an informal formality about it. It includes story-telling and interaction, music and movement and is suitable for people of all-ages, including children. If you are looking to introduce children to church, this is a good place to start.
This is a simple said Eucharist service, lasting about half an hour.
This is our main weekly Eucharist with wonderful choral and organ music as well as hymns for everyone to sing. It lasts about an hour and ten minutes. During term-time, our ‘Junior Church’ children’s group meet in the Edmund Room while the service is taking place. Afterwards, we enjoy a social time together, with refreshments.
A simple said Eucharist service lasting about half an hour, with the option of receiving prayer and anointing for healing, either for yourself or on behalf of someone else.

Each day begins with this is a short (20 minute) spoken, contemporary-language service. It follows a simple shape combining prayers, psalms and Bible readings as we offer each new day to God.
This sung service of Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer is a treasure of Anglican church worship. It lasts about 40 minutes and is primarily led by the Choir and Cantor who sing verses from scripture, psalms, canticles and an anthem. The beauty of the music, words and silences interspersed together inspires us and lifts us towards God. It is an ideal way to mark the end of a busy day and the transition into evening. +
Evening Prayer is the said equivalent of Choral Evensong although it uses contemporary language and lasts only about 20 minutes. Similar to Morning Prayer, it follows a simple shape combining prayers, psalms and Bible readings as we come before God at the end of the day.
This monthly service is for anyone who might find a longer service difficult but still enjoys singing and praising God. It is and informal and friendly service of Holy Communion and is also suitable for those with dementia and their carers. Refreshments are served after the service.
This short, monthly, service (10-15 minutes) is aimed at very young children and includes a short Bible story, a song and a simple prayer.
