Open for Sunday worship

St Edmundsbury Cathedral will re-open for worship on Sunday 5 July. There will be two services, one at 8.00 am and one at 11.00 am. Initially the Cathedral will only be open for worship on Sundays, with livestreamed worship and private prayer during the week. There will be no choral or congregational singing. Evening Prayer will still be livestreamed only for the time being.

In order to maintain proper safety and social distancing measures, a booking system is in place for services. To book in to a service, please email  with your name, the service you wish to attend and how many of your household will be attending by 12 noon on the Friday before the service. You will need to do this every time you want to attend church, until the distancing measures are lifted.

If you are a single person who has formed a bubble with other members of your family please let us know, as you will be able to sit together. Currently we are unable to allow multiple members of different households to sit together. You will receive an email confirming whether or not you have been successful in booking a place. In the event that you are unsuccessful, you will be put on a list for priority the following week.

Further guidance for attending worship can be found here

Dean Joe says: “We are delighted that we can welcome people back to the building for Sunday services. Much preparation has been done to ensure that worshippers can attend the services safely. Worship may look different, at least to start with, but it is good that whether in the building or via our livestream we can now be reunited in worship.

Services will continue to be livestreamed via the Cathedral’s Facebook page. Full details of times can be found here.
