Exploring prayer and creativity with workshops on icons, photography and art.

How do we broaden our vision to find deeper awareness and richer prayer? Join us at St Edmundsbury Cathedral for this Diocesan insight course with:

  • Sr Annette Lawrence
  • Revd Wendy Gourlay
  • Canon John Parr
  •  Canon Andrew Vessey
  • Bishop John Roundhill

The opening talk about prayer will be given by Bishop John Roundhill (assistant bishop in Brisbane)

Workshops:

  • Prayer and Photography: This workshop will use mostly non-religious photographs – including your own prints or tablet pictures – to explore some connections between prayer and photography.
  • Prayer and Art: A workshop showing how personal and spiritual devotions, expressed in two dimensional art-form, can help evoke and witness the power and efficacy of prayer. Examples and encouragement will be offered to inspire and kickstart your own creativity.
  • Praying with Art in the Cathedral: in this workshop we will explore a work of art in the Cathedral’s collection before inviting participants to express their reactions by sketching or writing, bringing their own materials with which to create a unique and prayerful response.
  • Praying with Icons: in this workshop we will explore the meaning of icons and how they can lead us into an encounter with God.

To book a space, please click here. This will take you to the diocesan Eventbrite page. Please contact Matthew Vernon at canon.pastor@stedscathedral.org if you have additional questions. After booking, participants will be emailed to ask which workshop they prefer.
