A Pilgrimage of Song: Chevington to the Cathedral

August 31, 2020 | 9:00 am 8:30 pm
Meet at Chevington Village Hall

A 7-mile walking route along the old Abbott’s Way, from Chevington to St Edmundsbury Cathedral, singing a short service at churches along the way. Part of the Abbey 1000 series of events to mark the millennium of the founding of the Abbey of St Edmund.

Originally due to take place on 30 May 2020, the event has now been postponed until Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, Covid19 permitting.

The day will start with a workshop at which we learn the music repertoire for the day. There will be a variety of music styles, with a mix of unison singing and some 4-part harmony – some easy, some a little more challenging, but certainly something for everyone.

We then begin our walk to the cathedral, calling at churches and singing a short service in each. The day ends with Compline in the cathedral, and a hot meal in Pilgrim’s Kitchen.

Come prepared to sing or simply listen. Those who can’t walk the whole route may make other arrangements for travel between churches.

Cost: A requested donation of £15 per person (£5 for under 30s). Advance booking is essential.

Booking will open as soon as we have the green light to proceed on this date. For up to date details visit cantusfirmus.org.uk
