Cathedral Staff News

Our Assistant Director of Music, Alexander Binns, has been appointed Director of Music at Derby Cathedral. He will take up this new post in the early summer.

He says, ‘I am honoured and thrilled to have been appointed as the next Director of Music at Derby Cathedral. It’s a beautiful cathedral with a brilliant musical setup in the heart of a busy city, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of running their music department. It has been a difficult decision for Dora, Peter and me to leave Bury St Edmunds and the Cathedral – it is a beautiful place with so many wonderful people. We’d like to thank the whole cathedral community for their support and friendship over the past few years. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time here and we will always look back on it with fond memories.’

In addition we also are pleased to announce that our Ordinand (priest in training), Sarah Geileskey, will become our Cathedral curate when she is ordained in June.

She says, ‘having been made so welcome during my training placement I am delighted that my curacy will be served in this Cathedral Church. To minister in an ordained capacity alongside the Residentiary Canons under the supervision of Dean Joe is an enormous and unexpected privilege which I shall cherish. I give thanks for you all; the clergy, congregation, staff and volunteers, for the various ways in which you are helping to form me into the minister that God is calling me to be. I am truly blessed to be part of a community that aspires to be a beacon of faith, hope and love in Suffolk.’

We offer warmest congratulations to both of them on this wonderful news and wish them well for this next chapter in their lives. We will all be very sorry to see Alex, Dora and Peter leaving us as they have become so much a part of our Cathedral family. We so much look forward to Sarah’s ministry amongst us.
